Late 19th Century
(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This 130-140-year-old Shirvan is an exciting addition to our extensive group of antique Caucasian rugs. A cascade of five crystalline signature Shirvan hexagonal medallions form the immovable center of gravity around which orbit a cosmic panoply of tribal motifs. Totemic animals include long-tailed legendary birds, striped horses and a lone saddled camel awaiting its celestial rider. They all share space with elemental ‘Trees of Life’, pinwheel blossoms, solar S-symbols along with myriad enigmatic geometric devices. Finely woven with the very best tribal wool, a potent palette illumines this piece including naturally dyed hues of pomegranate, daffodil, sapphire and pistachio among others. Notice the left minor border radically diverging with mischievous spontaneity from the three other sides, elaborating its diagonal stripes and skillfully changing direction. Its condition is outstanding! Learn About This Rug Type
