(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Painstakingly created in one of the countless small villages or encampments in the Northwest Persian Azerbaijan region, this highly creative antique runner presents a seasoned use of differing scales and quite geometricized, rustic flowers that result in its inventive and lively pattern. Of particular note are the stepped diamonds half obscured by either the border or the pagoda-shaped flowerheads, a never-seen-before intriguing use of symbols. The runner’s richly hued dark walnut ground silhouettes its sumptuous, time-matured hues, including vermillion, azure, goldenrod, jungle green, aubergine, and peach. Originally woven with exceptional clarity and constructed of high-quality mountain wool, this 130-year-old piece still boasts primarily heavier pile and is appropriate for use in a well-trafficked hallway.
