Twitter Instagram Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This extremely rare, nearly 175-year-old piece is an archetypical example of the prized, very seldom-found ‘Bird’ Shirvan motif, here appearing on a shimmering parchment ground in hues of antique carnelian and midnight indigo. The rug’s spaciousness, presence of rosettes, and sprinkled tiny icons all point to an early date. Of great interest, it is the only Bird Shirvan we have ever encountered that does not include a series of split palmettes in the field but does use a diagonal stripe main border. A trove of magically time-softened tones is omnipresent including sky and lapis blue, amber, pale rose, fern, sea green, and treasured Tyrian purple. The unusual main border accomplishes turning at each corner in a novel way, reflecting a fearless confidence in the spontaneous solution. Learn About This Rug Type
