(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This singular nearly 150-year-old Persian Ferahan rug features a repeated, three-dimensional bouquet design that includes depiction of the Dutch cabbage rose, referred to in the weaving cultures as Guli Farang ("Foreign Flower”). On full display is an absolute mastery of color-combining and nuanced sense of scale that captures open and budding roses, a soft red starflower, leaves and fronds with Impressionist strokes. With a richly hued color palette of cinnabar and cochineal with pine, aquamarine, sage, olive, amethyst, azure and goldenrod, this splendid carpet’s highly unusual format of both an ivory ground and main border creates a luminescent effect. Its spirited border suite is a joy to behold, with open-faced peonies escorted by a pair of guard stripes containing botehs (seed-like forms) that harken to the enduring cycle of nature.
